The Academic Year Begins for Israeli Schools
The academic year began on September 1 in Israel, bringing 2.5 million children back to school and kindergarten. For the first time since October 7, 2023, thousands of children returned to their schools in communities along the northern border with Lebanon and along the Gaza border in the south. USA Ambassador Michael Huckabee welcomed children at a school a few hundred yards from Gaza, saying, “Very bad people tried to prevent you from starting this day, but one of the things I appreciate most about Israelis: No matter how many times they try to stop you: you get right back up and keep going.”
This year, there are 180,600 children starting first grade and 149,000 starting twelfth grade. As a result of reserve duty and general teacher shortage, there are 488 teachers needed nationally. Additionally, for the first time in Israel’s modern history, there are more children beginning first grade in religious Jewish schools than in secular schools. This could signify a massive shift in future Israeli society.
Please pray for protection, health, and a successful year for the children of Israel.
Israeli Air Force Targets Houthi Government Leadership in Yemen
Last week, the Israeli Air Force struck key targets in Sanna, Yemen that were strategically connected to Houthi governmental ruling. There were also targeted strikes on ballistic missile production sites. It was confirmed that Houthi Prime Minister Ghalib al-Rahawi was killed, as well as most of his cabinet. This includes the Houthis’ political bureau director; the PM’s chief of staff; the Houthis’ cabinet secretary and foreign minister; and the Houthis’ ministers of justice, agriculture, public relations, and economy and trade. On October 19, 2023, the Houthis began firing missiles and drones at Israel. Israel only began to retaliate in July 2024. Though none of Israel’s attacks have caused a serious blow to the Houthis’ plans to destroy Israel, thankfully none of the Houthis’ ballistic missiles or drones have killed someone since July 2024.
Please pray for the ballistic missiles launched from the Houthis to stop.
IDF Destroys Half Mile Attack Tunnel Used by Hamas
Even after almost two years of fighting, the IDF is still finding and demolishing attack tunnels under Gaza that were built by Hamas. Last week, Hamas terrorists appeared from a hidden entrance of a tunnel that was half a mile long. The terrorists tried to ambush a reinforced IDF position in the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City. The IDF look-outs spotted them and stopped the ambush. Afterwards, the tunnel was discovered to be in active use with supplies, multiple rooms, and stored weapons. The IDF engineering brigade destroyed the tunnel. The IDF is working in Gaza City—where an estimated 400 Hamas terrorists are holding out—to demolish Hamas strongholds, booby-trapped infrastructure, and the tunnels that link below ground.
Please pray for the IDF soldiers’ safety as they move into close combat with Hamas terrorists hiding in Gaza City.
Backpacks for Children
Israeli schools are back in session, but many children lack the basic necessities to start successfully. Our team, along with a wonderful partner ministry, decided to bless children from war-torn and displaced communities affected by missile attacks by giving them backpacks full of school supplies! In these times, many families are suffering financial stress due to additional or surprise bills. These special backpacks contained art supplies, a lunch box, a water bottle, notebooks, and lots of love. The families know these backpacks are a gift from believers in Jesus who love and stand with Israel.
We pray this simple gesture can be a source of support and encouragement to the children and their parents. Please pray with us for children who have been traumatized because of the war and its effects on them and their families.
