Israeli AI Systems Reduce Emergency Response Times

Israel News Jan 1 2025

Israel’s 8200 intelligence unit and United Hatzalah, Israel’s emergency response operations, have worked together, using artificial intelligence (AI) to develop systems to predict where medical emergencies will take place. The AI systems are 90 percent correct and have reduced response times to just 90 seconds after a call or alert is received. Through predictive data, AI places ambulances, motorcycles, and volunteers in locations that have a high call rate. United Hatzalah is understaffed as over 7,000 volunteers and workers are reservists called up to serve in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in the war. The need resulted in these new AI systems, which streamline operations and now allow responders to save more lives.

Praise God for the development of this technology to save more lives.

The Israeli Air Force Strikes Houthi Rebels in Yemen

The Houthis, an Iran-backed rebel group in Yemen, have been targeting Israel with many ballistic missiles in the middle of the night, sending millions to jolt awake and run to their bomb shelters. In response, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) targeted Houthi military infrastructure, the Sana’a International Airport, two power stations, and two ports. Israel specifically targeted the airport, taking out the main runway, control tower, and aircraft because Iran was using it to smuggle weapons and supplies for the Houthis. This was the IAF’s largest strike on Houthi targets.

Since October 7, 2023, the Houthis have fired over 200 ballistic missiles and over 170 drones at Israel, with 22 hitting Israeli targets, while the United States and Israel have shot down the rest. The IDF attacked the Houthis in July, September, and on December 19. An IDF statement said, “The IDF will not hesitate to operate at any distance against any threat to the State of Israel and its citizens.”

Please pray the Houthis stop sending ballistic missiles to Israel.

Israel’s Northern Hospitals Start Moving Out of Fortified Facilities

Hospitals in Israel’s north—like in Safed, Haifa, and Nahariya—have been under heavy fire from Hezbollah for fifteen months. They had moved patients from intensive care, surgery, and labor and delivery wards to fortified bunkers underground. Some hospitals treated themselves like an isolated island by stockpiling food, medicines, and supplies in case of infrastructure and communications shutdowns due to mass causalities and destruction. In September, after the IDF targeted Hezbollah fighters by causing their pagers and walkie-talkies to explode, even more precautions were taken. After fourteen months, these wards are returning to their normal places, now with sunlight and out of dark and dank underground conditions. Still, all hospitals are ready to quickly move back to fortified locations if the security situation changes.

Please pray for a smooth return to routine in Israel’s northern hospitals and for peace and quiet so they can operate normally.

Tel Aviv Staff Hosts Children’s Hanukkah Party

Our Chosen People Ministries team in Tel Aviv recently hosted the annual children’s Hanukkah party! It was so wonderful to welcome in thirty-five children plus their parents for an evening of special art creations, singing Hanukkah songs, hearing the Hanukkah story, and learning how they can be lights for Jesus—especially in this dark world! They spun dreidels, ate donuts (in Hebrew, sufganiyot) and chocolate coins, and overall had a great time. The art teacher was amazed at the kind behavior of the kids and smiled with a twinkle in her eye when we explained that we are believers in Jesus. She had heard of Jewish people who believed in Jesus but never before met any. What a witness that the children were her first exposure!

Through months of hardship, it was a joy to be able to host the children and their families, as we think about how we can be lights in the darkness—for Him!

Please pray for these dear children who struggle with anxiety, fear, and the absence of their relatives who are serving on Israel’s many war fronts.
