U.S. and Iran Will Halt Hormuz Strait Attacks During Qatar Negotiations

Even though Iran refused to participate in proposed discussions on the logistics of reopening the Strait of Hormuz, both Iran and the U.S. have agreed to a temporary and conditional cessation of hostilities while negotiations to settle the current embargo proceed in Doha.

Talks addressing a solution to the costly closure of the major maritime crude oil corridor were originally scheduled to take place in Switzerland. However, tensions flared between the two nations, so the negotiations were reframed around the Hormuz Strait standoff and relocated to Qatar.

Despite the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Iran and the U.S., discussions ironing out the details of resuming commercial activity on the Strait will not begin until both countries honour a truce and deal with Iran’s intention to escalate its nuclear capability.

The MoU notwithstanding, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran imposed a military stranglehold on Hormuz traffic which instigated retaliatory strikes by American forces. The IRGC then fired upon U.S. bases in Bahrain and Kuwait—and both nations condemned these attacks.

The territorial waters of the Hormuz Strait are shared by Iran and Oman, and the latter has provided an alternate oil tanker route along its coastline, arguing that under international commercial maritime law, neither nation has the right to block the channel or levy poll taxes to allow passage through it.

The Strait of Hormuz is a conduit for up to 25% of global petroleum production and has been effectively closed for business since February 28 of this year when the U.S. and Israel initiated air strikes against Iranian arsenals, military bases, and government officials.

Pray for:

  • Spiritual revival in the nations involved in the current conflicts
  • Godly wisdom in the leaders of these countries
  • Hormuz reopening and prevention of nuclear escalation by Iran

IDF to Remain in Lebanon Until Hezbollah Threat Neutralized

Israeli Prime Minister and Defence Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel Katz, respectively, affirmed that the Israel Defence Forces will not leave the Lebanon Security Zone (LSZ) unless and until any threat of an act of terrorism against Israel by Hezbollah is eliminated.

PM Netanyahu demonstrated the efficacy of the IDF presence in southern Lebanon by indicating that the Israeli military has reduced by 92% the arsenal of Hezbollah which originally consisted of 150,000 rockets and missiles as well as an unspecified number of first-person view (FPV) drones.

Netanyahu further attested that all IDF troops on both sides of the Israel-Lebanon border are commanded to remove and neutralize any actual or perceived threat of aggression against Israel on the part of Hezbollah operatives—particularly those within the LSZ.

He went on to say that the IDF has neutralized at least 9,000 Hezbollah operatives to date, and the successful salvos of the U.S. and Israel against Iran (the main source of military and financial support for Hezbollah) have further weakened the terrorist organization.

He credits the IDF for establishing and maintaining buffer zones between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon and between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. In this way, IDF sentries can quickly repulse any potential terrorist threat and destroy their weapon caches and bunkers.

The Israeli government declared its intention to expel Hezbollah from northern Israel and southern Lebanon. Israel stands in solidarity with its northern neighbour whose aim it is to purge any terrorist presence and use the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) to secure its southern border.

Pray for:

  • Elimination of any terrorist presence on both sides of the border
  • Protection of those defending the borders in both nations
  • Repentance and salvation of the people of Israel and Lebanon

Israeli Government Officially Recognizes Armenian Genocide

The Netanyahu government recently voted by majority to acknowledge officially and formally the murder of 1,500,000 Armenian nationals by Ottoman Turks during WW I.

The above decision must then be subjected to vote by the Knesset plenum. However, Armenian ecclesiastical authorities anticipate overwhelming support for the bill by Members of Knesset (MKs).

The Armenian government and religious councils are optimistic about Israel’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide of 1915. Both the Armenian and the Jewish people have long histories of nomadism, relatively recent establishment of homelands, and subjection to religious persecution.

Bishop Koryun Baghdasaryan, leader and dean of the Armenian Patriarchate manor in Jerusalem, warmly welcomed Israel as the 32nd member of the United Nations to recognise the atrocity visited upon the people of Armenia over a century ago.

The Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide of the UN defines genocide as “[acts committed with the] intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group, as such.”

The word genocide was coined by Polish Jewish attorney Raphael Lemkin to describe mass killings such as those inflicted by the Nazis upon Eastern and Central European Jewry during WW II.

Bishop Baghdasaryan stated that as Germany chose to be accountable for the abominations perpetrated by some of its citizens during the Holocaust, he is hopeful—even insistent—that Turkey, the “legal heir” of the Ottoman Empire, own up to its massacre of Armenians.

Thus far, the only vocal opponent of Israel’s (and any other nation’s) vote to acknowledge the Armenian Genocide is Azerbaijan, neighbour to both Armenia and Iran, and political and religious ally to Turkey.

Pray for:

  • Recognition on part of Turkey of its role in Armenian persecution
  • Unification of both peoples through a saving knowledge of Yeshua
  • Amicable relations between Israel and Armenia

Israelis Commemorate 1,000 Days Since October Massacre

This week marks the 1,000th day after Hamas terrorists invaded and swarmed southern Israel, killing 1,200 and kidnapping 250 civilians and soldiers.

To commemorate this tragedy, the October Council (relatives of the victims) planned a memorial march at 11 points along the Gaza Envelope struck by Hamas nearly three years ago.

The starting point will be the car park of Kibbutz Re’im, the first settlement to be attacked by Hamas. There, 18 people were killed and five were abducted while 378 and 44 attendees of the nearby outdoor Nova Sukkot Gathering were murdered and kidnapped, respectively.

The public is welcome to join the convoy at all road marks en route and are encouraged to bring and wave Israeli flags as they proceed. Special recognition will be paid to Kibbutzim Be’eri and Nir Oz which were the hardest hit on October 7, 2023.

The memorial will conclude with a ceremony at Hostages Square in Tel Aviv where the families of abductees in Gaza demanded the prompt and safe return of their loved ones. After the service, Hostages Square will be renamed the Square of Remembrance.

It is anticipated that protests regarding the management of the Netanyahu administration of the October 7 tragedy will be held outside the Prime Minister’s residence in Jerusalem and at major intersections nationwide.

The October Council will also request that Israelis observe one minute of silence at 10 a.m. The actual rally will assemble at 8 p.m.

Pray for:

  • Comfort and consolation for the families of the victims of Hamas
  • Strong stance of the Israeli government against acts of terrorism
  • Unity among Jewish and Gentile Israelis in the Messiah Yeshua

Backpacker Reunion at Our Tel Aviv Messianic Center

Recently, the team of Chosen People Ministries in Tel Aviv, along with our partners in Australia with Celebrate Messiah, hosted a fabulous reunion of travel friends and backpackers. During the evening, memories were shared, which reignited the special bonds that are created while traveling. Our staff and our Aussie hosts thoroughly enjoyed seeing a variety of friends from only a few weeks ago, or from months, years, and even over a dozen years ago. The impact of experiencing hospitality and the conversations had while traveling last a lifetime! Each traveler had a great time staying in host homes or at the hosting center located in a surfing town. At the end of the night, one young man said he wants to understand more about the Lord, a subject frequently brought up while he was traveling.

Please pray for continued conversations and meet-ups for Israelis to talk about and process the testimonies heard, spiritual conversations had, and moments when the Lord spoke to them while they traveled.
