Israel Neutralizes Existential Threat from Iran

After years of preparation and intelligence gathering, Israel launched a pre-emptive strike against Iran in the early hours of June 13. In the days leading up to the pre-emptive strike, Israel had planned a series of deceptive public messages to lull Iran into a false sense of security. Israel viewed the weakening of Iran’s proxy groups of Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis as a prime time to target Iran. The regime’s nuclear threat was coming to a head as Iran’s mission to destroy Israel, its supply of uranium for nuclear bombs, and thousands of ballistic missiles and launchers aimed at Israel were now causing an existential threat to Israel.

After flying 930 miles, the surprise attack targeted top Iranian nuclear scientists that were working on the bomb. The Israeli Air Force also struck several nuclear facilities and destroyed much of Iran’s air defenses, which gave the fighter jets and drones freedom in the air. Many ballistic missile launchers were also struck, limiting Iran’s initial response. Additionally, thirty top Iranian military commanders, three of which were very high-ranking generals, were eliminated. This action disrupted Iran’s response and command for nearly a day. All these initial simultaneous targets occurred within minutes of the surprise attack.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has said that it “fully met, and even exceeded, all the objectives and goals” that it had set out before the operation, which lasted just twelve days.

Praise God for the strategy, preparation, and follow-through of the IDF to conduct such a powerful strike to remove the threat against Israel.

Note: The Times of Israel article linked below offers an analysis of Israel’s recent operation in Iran after the fact, going into more detail on what Israel accomplished, how, and why at that particular time. Though this conflict has since subsided, this article is an important read to give more context for what happened and its historic significance.

Iranian Ballistic Missile Hits a Medical Research Center in Israel

The Weizmann Institute of Science in the southern Israeli town of Rehovot recently received a direct impact from an Iranian ballistic missile. The Institute had 2,500 researchers in thirty labs for mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, biochemistry, and computer science. The missile caused massive damage to its cancer research center. It destroyed labs, equipment, tissue samples, possibly lab animals, and the research of both Israeli and foreign students. This tremendous setback is causing grief and sadness from the researchers as they realize much of their life’s work is now gone.

The building of the Cancer Research Center was one of the hardest hit and will most likely need to be demolished and rebuilt. Senior cancer researcher, Dr. Leeat Yankielowicz-Keren, said she was mourning the loss of irreplaceable cancer samples in her tumor immunology laboratory. Her written data was safely stored, but “destroyed scientific devices, despite costing hundreds of thousands of shekels, could be replaced, but the samples themselves were one of a kind.” Another researcher named Alon Chen said, “the missiles completely erased decades of research; we will need to start from scratch.”

Please pray for those who were researching cures for cancer and other important medical breakthroughs. Pray for them as they mourn the loss of their work and please pray that they can raise up new research and development to find cures for cancer.

Syria Seeks an Abraham Accord-Style Peace with Israel

A potential Abraham Accord-style agreement between Israel and Syria is being discussed as indirect negotiations are being held with regional and international approval. According to the US Department of State, the Abraham Accords are peace agreements between Israel and certain Arab nations that promote peace, understanding, coexistence, human dignity, and religious freedom. Syria’s new president in Damascus, Al-Sharaa, is pushing for a deal more than Israel is. The rapidly changing process has Damascus relying on Arab mediation to preserve its sovereignty and hopes Western pressure will influence Israel to “stop the attacks”.

After the fall of the regime of Bashar Al Assad, Israel now operates in previously demilitarized zones and is demanding full demilitarization south of Damascus. There were previous ceasefire lines, and a UN monitored buffer zone established after the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Israel had withdrawn from areas near Quneitra in Syria and Israel’s own border town, but since the fall of Bashar Assad’s regime, Israel entered the border zone and Syrian peaks of Mount Hermon.

Please pray for an Abraham Accord-style peace agreement to be established with Israel’s neighbor, Syria.

Our Staff Brings Comfort to Those Who Lost So Much

In one of the hotels where people are now living, a few of our Chosen People Ministries staff members took the time to tend to their needs immediately. A ballistic missile made a direct impact with a high-rise apartment building, and suddenly 250 people were moved from there into a nearby hotel. This happened in many cities along the coast in Israel because too many ballistic missiles were making impact. There were 110 children, parents, elderly, and young adults suddenly without a home. While our staff could not talk with each individual, they did their best to help, serve, listen, counsel, and pray for people.

The very day the group arrived at the hotel, our staff asked if a children’s playroom could be set up there, so with the help from the city, a little oasis was created for the children to play, do arts and crafts, and even have a time for music. For the adults, our team quickly bought necessary hygiene products to help get the people settled. Many escaped with just the clothes on their backs. Later, a representative of each apartment was allowed inside their apartment for a limited amount of time to go in and retrieve what they could with one suitcase. The hygiene products were so important to allow them to grab undamaged things like clothes, toys, and electronics.

Each staff member had meaningful conversations with so many people, and we pray that the words of hope and peace bring them comfort during this difficult time. Please pray for them as they process the loss of their home and need to resettle into a new home.
