The purpose
Agree that the purpose of the prayer group is to pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122) and the salvation of Jewish people in Canada and around the world (Romans 10).
Why Kotel Prayer Partners? The Kotel is the Western (or Wailing) Wall in Jerusalem, the only surviving portion of the Temple. Jewish people leave written notes and prayers in the cracks between the stones of the Kotel. Their hope is that God will hear and answer their prayers. As followers of Messiah, we know God will hear us wherever we are. We have called these individuals and prayer groups Kotel Prayer Partners to remind us of the need to pray for Israel and God’s chosen people.

You may already know people who have a love for Jewish people; they may be natural Kotel Partners. But throw your net a little wider! This could be a wonderful opportunity to introduce someone to God’s love and passion for His chosen people. Think about inviting some younger adults or older teens, too.
Jesus taught that He would be with even two or three people gathered in His name (Matthew 18:20). You will have a prayer group even if it is just you and one other Partner. The size of your group may depend on the size of your meeting place. Keeping it small – perhaps a dozen people or less – will help keep the group focused, intimate and productive.
Whatever works for you is a good place. It may be someone’s living room or basement. It may be a room at the church (be sure to ask permission!). Unless the meetings are multiple hours in length, you probably won’t find refreshments necessary. Be sure that is made clear to your host/hostess.
This is up to you and your Kotel Partners. Once a month for a sixmonth period might be a good starting point. Whatever you choose, be consistent. Providing an ending date is less intimidating than an open-ended commitment and can help reassure hesitant Partners. At the end of the agreed upon period, the Partners can decide to continue or not.
Many people are not used to lengthy periods of prayer. Consider starting small and working up to a length that is comfortable for your members.
Consistency is key to a successful prayer group.
A group member should remind Partners of upcoming meetings and special needs. Keep a list of phone numbers and/or email addresses for this purpose.
Would you like to find some new Kotel Partners for your group? Consider advertising at your church or neighbouring churches. Encourage existing Partners to approach Christian friends.
That brings us back to Tip #1 – the peace of Jerusalem and the salvation of Jewish people. We will provide our monthly prayer calendar and other materials that will help you pray effectively. You might also want to stay alert to events in the nearest Jewish community or in the news and make them a matter of prayer. Pray for the Jewish people in your neighbourhood, in general or by name.
